Ridgewood is one of 14 Queens neighborhoods expected to be sprayed for mosquitos tomorrow, August 31 between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. The other neighborhoods are: parts of Briarwood, Elmhurst, Forest Hills, Forest Hills Gardens, Glendale, Jamaica, Jamaica Hills, Kew Gardens, Kew Gardens Hill, Maspeth, Middle Village, Rego Park and Richmond Hill.
The spraying is overseen by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, which posted the following message along with the spraying schedule:
The Health Department monitors mosquito populations and applies pesticides when appropriate throughout the summer to reduce the number of mosquitoes and to minimize the risk of mosquito-borne diseases such as the West Nile Virus and the Zika Virus.
