Mosquito spraying in Ridgewood tomorrow

Ridgewood is one of 14 Queens neighborhoods expected to be sprayed for mosquitos tomorrow, August 31 between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. The other neighborhoods are: parts of Briarwood, Elmhurst, Forest Hills, Forest Hills Gardens, Glendale, Jamaica, Jamaica Hills, Kew Gardens, Kew Gardens Hill, Maspeth, Middle Village, Rego Park and Richmond Hill.

The spraying is overseen by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, which posted the following message along with the spraying schedule:

The Health Department monitors mosquito populations and applies pesticides when appropriate throughout the summer to reduce the number of mosquitoes and to minimize the risk of mosquito-borne diseases such as the West Nile Virus and the Zika Virus.

Ridgewood pharmacy thefts may be connected

Police believe four thefts at Ridgewood pharmacies this summer may be connected.

In the most recent incident, police report that unknown individuals entered Rite Aid Pharmacy at 60-36 on August 16 at around 6 p.m. The individuals are accused to taking various medical products and leaving the store without paying.

On July 17, at the same Rite Aid, police said at around 7:05 p.m., individuals entered the store and removed over the counter medications, speakers, razors and baby formula.

In June, individuals allegedly store miscellaneous items from the Rite Aid on Grandview Avenue and the Walgreens on Myrtle Avenue in Ridgewood.

The three individuals are all described as black males between the ages of 18 and 22. Surveillance images are from the August 16 incident.

Community garden hosting work day this Saturday

Now that the Ridgewood Community Garden group has a new space in partnership with Grover Cleveland High School, they’re hosting their second work day this weekend.

The group is inviting residents interested in helping out to come check out the new space and prep it for the fall planting season on August 20, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. See more info from the group below:

Police bust eight at prostitution problem corner

The intersection of Cypress Avenue and Starr Street in Ridgewood.

As part of operation losing proposition, the NYPD 104th Precinct’s continuing effort to combat prostitution in Ridgewood (specifically the area around Cypress Avenue and Starr Street), police arrested eight individuals on Saturday August 6.

All eight individuals, listed below, were arrested and charged with patronizing a prostitute.

Ridgewood resident shares video of motorcycle theft

A Ridgewood man posting on Facebook under the name Radek Chrzanowski, shared surveillance footage of what appears to be two perpetrators stealing his motorcycle on Ridgewood Social. He’s offering a $500 reward for tips, and can be contacted at rudy4pl@hotmail.com

He posted the video, below, along with the following message:

I live in ridgewood and last week I’ve unfortunetly had my beloved motorcycle stolen. I’ve got footage of the theft and a decent shot of the perpetrator’s faces. I was wonder if you’d be so kind and share my facebook post about the theft so maybe someone in the neighborhood recognizes them. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

After months of planning meetings, the Ridgewood community garden finally has a new home at Grover Cleveland High School.

The group is planning their first work day, this Saturday, August 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The group posted the following message on Facebook:
